Latest Updates from Our Project:

Palm Island Contest, Facebook Group, and Sequel
over 6 years ago – Fri, Jul 19, 2019 at 11:35:45 PM

I will try to make this one brief. I wanted everyone to know about our facebook group for Palm Island.

I have been working on a few new games within the Palm Island style.  Some are coming along and will be moving into play testing soon. I wanted to start a group to hear and talk about Palm Island games past,  present and future. Also, we have a contest that is running now!

Post a picture of your Palm Island wallet and you could win a one of a kind leather wallet. See more details here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2549907995027543/permalink/2592392667445742/

Soon I will be collecting play testers for a new game that is currently being called Palm Galaxy. This has a lot of fun ideas and really expands the solo aspect of Palm Island with scenarios, win/loss conditions and legacy elements. I am planning on it having allot of content so it will be a big box for a portable game.

In the facebook group we have also been doing some Palm Island challenge games where players post a setup and see how well others can do at it.

Thats, it for now. By the way if you are at Gen Con I would love to say "Hi". Stop by and see us at booth #3040.

Thanks,

Jon

Hybrid Reprint and Planetoid
almost 7 years ago – Thu, Mar 07, 2019 at 12:52:23 AM

I just wanted to send a quick update to inform you that we are reprinting the plastic card edition. I was hesitant to do this right away because I want to explore some improvements in quality. I have been working with our new manufacturer and the new plastic card edition is looking very good.  I cannot give the final word on how slippery they are in comparison but the samples are far better.

In addition, I have been working with them to get an improved wallet included with the game. If all testing works out his would be a imitation leather wallet that holds the solo materials. They are making samples now. I am planning to make this wallet available for purchase for all Palm Island backers but it will be included in the new plastic card retail edition of the game. This edition is available through our new kickstarter Planetoid.

Planetoid Launched

Our new game Planetoid has launched on kickstarter and is already funded. Please check out the campaign here and if you like what we do please share it so we can keep making great games.

Present and Future of Portal Dragon
about 7 years ago – Tue, Jan 29, 2019 at 01:48:06 AM

Present

I would like to thank you all for your support. Because of you, Portal Dragon is growing with exciting new projects coming up. We have a new addition to the Portal Dragon team. Until recently I was handling pretty much everything. Customer and community support are extremely important to me and with the success of Palm Island it was taking a lot to keep up with it all.  So I would like to introduce Samantha Mietling. Samantha is my sister and has been helping behind the scenes for a while. Many of you have interacted with Samantha with shipping, but she is also handling much of the office/business side of Portal Dragon. I would like to thank you all for your patience through my man with too many hats phase. Going forward with Samantha's help we are looking to utilize our talents alongside contractors and outside agencies to increase our capabilities. We still are only 2 people, but we will always do everything we can to ensure our community is well taken care of.

Future

I always have games rattling around in my head and there are 2 coming up that I am very excited for. The first of which is launching on Kickstarter next month (Feb 26th) and it is called Planetoid. I have been working on this one for a while. It clicked really well with its core mechanics and makes a great light to mid-weight family game. I am also currently working on a bigger game called Co-Lab with Jonathan Gilmore. The game is awesome, the art is phenomenal, more on that will be coming up later this year. It is great working with Jonathan and we are very excited about Co-Lab. Portal Dragon's future is looking pretty awesome and I want to thank you once again for your support in making that a reality.

Planetoid

We are about a month away from the kickstarter for Planetoid. I wanted to take a quick minute to tell you about the game. In addition, I am opening up the playtesting to a larger group for the final round of playtesting.

In the quick tile-based game, Planetoid, players take on the role of a space miner and attempt to collect more resources or bonuses than their competition. Players may choose to either; Drill: taking a tile and revealing all adjacent tiles, Sweep: looking at two tiles, returning them and charging their systems for later use or Move: Return all resources you have collected to the cargo bay. While returning resources to the cargo bay if your resources match those of one of the random bonuses, that are set at the beginning of the game, you may collect those as well. Play continues until all tiles have been revealed or all bonuses have been acquired. The player with the most points wins.

Players: 1-4

Time: 30 min

Ages: 8+

Price: $22

The board is made up of 5 pieces that are assembled puzzle style.

The game features double thick boards to make it easy to remove the tiles and hiding the puzzle assembly.

If you are interested in playtesting, it will be done online through Tabletopia. You will not need any special software to access this, your internet browser will do. There is also a mobile app. I do have an option for print and play as well. All playtesters that meet the requirements will be credited as a tester and will receive a free copy of the game. If you would be interested in helping out please fill this form.

If you are interested in Planetoid or more of Portal Dragon's games in the future there is a neat little feature of Kickstarter that allows you to follow creators. Find Portal Dragon on the Find Creators Page and click follow. Then you will get an update when our new projects launch. Alternatively, you can also sign up for our email updates. Just so you know, I only send one email per launch on this list so you won't be spammed with multiple emails.

Thanks for your support,

Jon Mietling
